About 3 weeks ago I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, and large fuel filter. After the PM, the engine wouldn't start so I had it primed. It ran for a bit, then died. It doesn't seem to be a fuel issue because when I loosen the priming plug and attempt a start fuel squirts through the system.
While recognizing that the solutions within my meager mechanical abilities probably wouldn't work, I went ahead and changed the fuel and oil filters again and also changed the fuel pump.
Now, if the unit starts at all, it will shut down with "check apu engine" on the display. Although the oil level is fine, the only light burning inside the engine compartment is "Oil".
Finally figured out the problem. It seemed that the fuel solenoid on the front of the engine was not staying open or opening at all. After we replaced the solenoid and the same problem occurred, the tech found that there was a short in the wires leading to the solenoid plug. A little solder and hot coffee is again available!
I would like to recommend the Utility trailer dealer in Fontana, CA. I am always hesitant to use a new shop on the road because I'm sure that they're going to either not fix my problem and charge me anyway, or fix it for an exorbitant amount of money. That was not the case with these guys. Frank said, "If we don't find the problem, we won't charge you anything, but we're going to find the problem". They did, quickly, and the bill only came to $115, and that's with a new generator belt. Great, friendly, inexpensive service.
